HISTORY OF THE WILDWHIRLED...
more than you ever wanted to know
Despite rifts in the community between creationists and evolutionists, the two sides have found common ground in establishing how Wild Whirled came to be. Wild Whirled's unique story contains several big bangs, a few big breaks, divine inspiration, serendipity, a vacuum and universal expansion. And not necessarily in that order.
The story begins in Phoenix, Arizona, where veteran songwriting production team John Costello and David Hilker found success writing music for film and TV. The dynamic duo wrote for various song catalogs and music publishers and TV shows. After a two season stint composing the underscore for NASCARRacers on FoxKids, Costello/Hilker began pitching completed music projects to numerous publishers and music libraries. Each of the first 10 projects culminated in a pile of rejection letters and numerous paper cuts. The music was great. The team had previous success. Why didn't the industry get it?
Heard by few but still detectable via reverberating sound waves in the ether, the first few Wild Whirled big bangs occurred. It was the muffled, dense sound of John and Dave banging their heads against the wall.
Concurrently, New York City native Jeff Freundlich was packing up his car. Fed up with the rat race, Jeff was ready to leave a successful career in the business world for a bohemian life writing and recording music in Phoenix, AZ. Jeff thought his big break came when he was given the opportunity to write for an Epic recording artist. Freundlich booked studio time for the project. The day of the final recording session, the studio's equipment broke. This was truly the first big break.
Panicked and frenzied, the studio referred Jeff to two guys named David Hilker and John Costello to complete the demo. Ahhhh, sweet serendipity.
After several months of hanging out, building each others' trust and sharing ideas, the concept for a new song catalog was born. Business plans were created, money was raised and companies were formed. Of course, the first ten discs of the Wild Whirled Song Catalog were the very same ten discs that were rejected by numerous industry executives.
With a plan in hand, music to market and a general feeling of excitement, the Wild Whirled fellas were ready to roar into the industry. Despite numerous phone calls, leads, introductions and pitches, nothing happened. Literally. Nothing. For six months. Not a bite. This was the vacuum. The vacuum gave rise to additional big bangs.
And then, one day, the mailman delivered a notice from Warner Bros. that Wild Whirled's Hip Hop song
Right On Funkin' was used in an episode of The Drew Carey Show. This was the next big break. The next group of big bangs was the sound of John, Dave and Jeff chest bumping, high five-ing, whooping and hollering.
And from there, Wild Whirled grew bigger and stronger. John, Dave and Jeff continue to write for the song catalog. The team also draws on the divine inspiration of more than 100 composers from all over the world. Our music can be heard seven days a week on television and in films from nearly every major studio.

Incidentally, the artist Jeff was writing demos for flopped. More importantly, the first ten discs of the Wild Whirled Song Catalog are some of the most widely used and most successful in the collection.
